About Us
Bates Votes is Bates College’s non-partisan voting effort, coordinated through the Harward Center for Community Partnerships. Our mission is to promote voter registration, education, and civic engagement on and off-campus. Bates Votes is not affiliated with any political party or partisan organization.
We recognize that voting is not the cure to all of the United States’ deep-rooted issues and that other forms of civic engagement and activism are necessary to effect change. We also note that voting is not accessible to some, and has historically excluded Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. Our mission is not aimed to enforce voting or pressure anyone to engage with a flawed political system. To learn about more ways to stay involved in non-election years, click below.
